Jim
Fitzpatrick works with schools throughout the world that
want to teach kids to be Responsible, Self-Disciplined and
held Accountable. He has presented in-service programs,
seminars and delivered keynotes at schools and conferences
in over forty states and twenty countries. Jim understands
schools and how they work. He has been a classroom teacher,
assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. Especially
as an assistant principal and principal he spent years chasing,
loving, caring, lecturing, cheering, detaining and suspending
students. Jim always believed, and still does, that students
need to be held accountable for their behavior. He employed
all the typical rules, consequences, "first offense…second
offense", punishments, and rewards until he was exhausted.
As a
new principal in a school, Jim was determined to find a
more positive and productive way to deal with students.
He believed in being tough, but it was now a matter of how
we would be tough. Students needed to learn new behaviors.
The focus would be on Teaching Responsibility to Students.
The results were outstanding! The need for punitive practices
was eliminated. The drop out rate dipped below one percent.
Suspensions were reduced dramatically. Students were being
held accountable and responsible for their actions! The
process became integrated into the culture of the school.
Ten
years ago Jim started Fitzpatrick Associates and now works
full time consulting, conducting workshops, training and
providing in-service programs in schools, K-12, finding
more constructive and better ways of dealing with the young
people in our schools.
